DISTRICT 9 (August 14th, 2009, TriStar Pictures)

DIST9_TSR_1SHT_3

I cannot express how I excited I am to see this film.  Peter Jackson’s stamp is all over Neill Blomkamp’s debut feature, DISTRICT 9, a faux-documentary/science fiction genre defying piece of film that is currently receiving nothing but positive feedback.  I’ve read little about the films plot, but it sounds like it’s quite the surprise.  I can’t wait to review this one.

If you haven’t felt the widespread viral marketing campaign, basically DISTRICT 9 tells the fictional (but somehow believable) historical events that occur when a spaceship from another world crashes by mistake on our planet in South Africa.  Rather then help or let the alien beings leave, higher forces keep them quarantined under heavy surveillance in what is established as “district 9.” The reason why we won’t let them leave has to do with human desires to learn how their advanced and dangerous weapon systems work.  They may or may not escape, and hell may or may not break loose after this happens.

I am ready for this film.  Are you?

Disagree? Feel free to catch BANDSLAM , THE GOODS: LIVE HARD SELL HARD, PONYO or THE TIME TRAVELERS WIFE, the other wide-release movies this weekend instead.
